Defence Minister replaced in Brazil
After a series of unwise commentaries about Brazil ’s president Dilma Roussef choices for her staff, Minister Nelson Jobim left the job of Minister of Defence.
Jobim, who came from an allied party, PMDB, was Lulas’s choice for the Defence Ministry, in his days. His absence will not make much difference, since he had no prior experience in defense themes. It was an announced fall.
His substitute is the shrewd, brainy and well knew worldwide Ambassador Celso Amorim. Who fought (and won) many wars, in the international trade field, for Brazil . Amorin is respected (and feared, some say), in many places and international organizations for his intelligence, and his strait forward vision for Brazil . So, international defence contractors, there is no reason for worry. The Ministry is in excellent hands. Now, we have a man with a broad international vision of Brazil in the Ministry of Defense. Jobim tried his best, but he was just not the man for the job.
The military, in Brazil , are a little aloof, in this case. They would prefer a “brother in arms” for the job… The president-in-exercise of The Military Club (a powerful organization in the cold war days), reformed General Clovis Bandeira said, according to the periodic “Ultimo Segundo” , “that the armed forces will not make any pressure for Jobim’s permanence. “Nobody is irreplaceable”, he said.
